Oh. Right. We're The Shrill And Unhinged....

WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!?!

This is the moment to say that there are things in life worth fighting and dying for and one of 'em is making sure Nancy Pelosi doesn't become the speaker.

I think you might then say that the obesity crisis could be the fault of government, liberal government. Food stamps, all those -- you know, I'm gonna tell you people a story. I -- just, well, the government, you could say, is killing these people because we know obesity kills, and the government's killing the poor. The Bush administration is killing the poor with too much food.

I don't know if it was bad childhoods, bad wiring in the head, or some other third thing; and I don't care anymore. Why are these repellent sociopaths allowed to spew this bile without penalty of cancellation or in the case of "Death Threat" Coulter locked up in a happy place for her and our own good, girl needs an intervention; STAT!

The there is Sean "Jihad" Hannity, what the hell does he want every overweight, middle aged, bad plug job whiteboy to strap moonpies and Jack D to themselves and march down Penn Avenue???

I won't even comment on the apparently drug addled moron Limbaugh. Yeah he is just the guy to talk about obesity. Smell the irony on that one.

Olbermann Skewers The Big Lie

The big question: Why is it, with all these "journalists" running around , and ex-sports reporter makes the most sense? Crooks and Liars has the transcript.

My favorite part:

Mr. Rumsfeld is also personally confused, morally or
intellectually, about his own standing in this matter. From Iraq to
Katrina, to the entire "Fog of Fear" which continues to enveloppe this
nation - he, Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, and their cronies, have - inadvertently
or intentionally - profited and benefited, both personally, and politically.
And yet he can stand up, in public, and question the morality and
the intellect of those of us who dare ask just for the receipt for the
Emporer’s New Clothes.
In what country was Mr. Rumsfeld raised?
As a child, of whose heroism did he read?
On what side of the battle for freedom did he dream one day
to fight?
With what country has he confused… the United States of
America?

Black students ordered to give up seats to white children
Status of Red River Parish bus driver is unknown.

COUSHATTA -- Nine black children attending Red River Elementary School were directed last week to the back of the school bus by a white driver who designated the front seats for white children.

The situation has outraged relatives of the black children who have filed a complaint with school officials.

Superintendent Kay Easley will meet with the family members in her office this morning.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People also is considering filing a formal charge with the U.S. Department of Justice. NAACP District Vice President James Panell, of Shreveport, said he would apprise Justice attorneys of the situation this week. He's considering asking for an investigation into the bus incident and other aspects of the school system's operations, including pupil-teacher ratio as it relates to the numbers of white and black children, along with a breakdown of the numbers of black and white teachers employed....

Thank You

We recieved nearly 14,000 emails of support which I think had a big hand in keeping me on AAR. Thanks to the folks at the NET who generated thousands of emails from thier legions of activists. Thanks also to the dailykos and Atrios and Liberaloasis and crooksandliars and all the bloggers out there who helped spread the word.

announcement on the flip!

That is what they call in the radio business a tease. Sorry, couldn't help myself. I will be moving to the network 9a-12p slot starting sometime in mid september. They're still working out the details of the launch.

Don't know what the show will be called as of yet. There is desire form the network for me to call it the Sam Seder Program or show or something like that-- supposedly it's a branding issue or some other crap. I am not terribly comfortable naming a show after myself because it bores me in one sense and probably because of deep seeded psychological issues. But more specifically, I am very attatched to the name Majority Report. It's what the first prototype of this show was called on one night in Feb. 2003 when Tom Scharpling gave me two hours on his Best Show on FMU. It has a two and a half year history which I shared with Janeane. Most importantly, I now associate it with you, our listeners and particularly our bloggers. So with all that said, we'll see... but, and I bold this so there is no doubts this blog will remain.

We're beginning to develop ideas for the new show- I don't think it will be radically different and any new developments that we make we will roll in. That said I do have a couple of surprises in mind.

I will give more updates later, but now I am on vacation! Thanks again for all your support and I won't let you guys down.
Sam is one of the rising stars of the netwok, truly intelligent, insightful, and funny. Kudos Sam, we'll be listening.

Buchanan's Kampf:Update

Think Progress brings to light some excerpts from Pat "Whitey" Buchanan's newest screed "State of Emergency." MSNBC has video of The Wing-nuttiest on NBC's Today with Dick Gregory(link).
America faces an existential crisis. If we do not get control of our borders, by 2050 Americans of European descent will be a minority in the nation their ancestors created and built. No nation has ever undergone so radical a demographic transformation and survived.(p11)
An existential crisis? I thought that was whether or not you liked "I Heart Huckabees". No matter here it comes, Buchanan peddling the boogeyman of the hour. the Atzlan Reconquista, (when clicking the prior link please make sure your tin-foil hat is firmly in place.):
“Chicano chauvinists and Mexican agents have made clear their intent to take back through demography and culture what their ancestors lost through war.”(p12)
Media Matters enters the fray by supplying these beauties
"We are witnessing how nations perish. We are entered upon the final act of our civilization. The last scene is the deconstruction of the nations. The penultimate scene, now well underway, is the invasion unresisted." [p. 6]
"[W]e are in the midst of a savage culture war in which traditionalist values have been losing ground for two generations." [p. 28]
And less we forget this classic piece of paranoia:
"I think these parts of our country are going to be de facto parts of Mexico even though they're under the jurisdiction of the United States,"
Pat Buchanan , May 13, 2004
It is true that even paranoid xenophobes have a point, assimiliation should be the ultimate goal for all immigrants. What is in dispute is how does that assimiliation take place. Historically, assimilation has been a process of blending, not always peacefully, the newer culture into the extistent one.

The other path, the Buchanan path seeks to force a non-existent "norm" down everyone's collective throats. In this fairy tale world, who decides the boundaries of the norm, who enforces it and who will watch the watchmen.

Center for war-related brain injuries faces budget cut
Posted 8/8/2006
By Gregg Zoroya,
USA TODAY (link)

Congress appears ready to slash funding for the research and treatment of brain injuries caused by bomb blasts, an injury that military scientists describe as a signature wound of the Iraq war.

House and Senate versions of the 2007 Defense appropriation bill contain $7 million for the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center — half of what the center received last fiscal year....

....Preliminary research by the center shows that about 10% of all troops in Iraq, and up to 20% of front line infantry troops, suffer concussions during combat tours. Many experience headaches, disturbed sleep, memory loss and behavior issues after coming home, the research shows....

....The Pentagon so far has declined to do the screening and argues that more research is needed.

Another Harris staffer gone
by Jim Stratton
Aug 21, 2006 11:15:28 AM

U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris has lost another key staffer in the wake of a disastrous political rally last week.

Rhyan Metzler, who had been Harris' political director, is no longer with the campaign, according to Harris spokeswoman Jennifer Marks. Metzler is the staffer that is being blamed for embarrassing comments Harris made following a rally at Orlando Executive Airport.

Only 40 people showed up for the event -- a number that includes Harris staff and media -- and Harris blamed the paltry turnout in part on a last-minute location change. She said a tree fell on the hangar that the rally was scheduled to be in forcing her campaign to switch to another hangar.

Airport officials, however, said no trees had fallen and that Harris was in the hangar her campaign had originally booked.

That Old Time Religion!

Lets here it for abstinence only education! or Ohio school district experiences baby boom!

From WYFF in Ohio:

Sex Ed Changes At School With 65 Pregnant Teens
August 15, 2006 (Link)

CANTON, Ohio -- An Ohio school board is expanding sex education following the revelation that 13 percent of one high school's female students were pregnant last year.

There were 490 female students at Timken High School in 2005, and 65 were pregnant, WEWS-TV in Cleveland reported. The new Canton school board program promotes abstinence but also will teach students who decide to have sex how to do so responsibly, bringing the city school district's health curriculum in line with national standards.
The textbooks were from 1988, although I am not sure what difference that makes to abstinence education. So books from the late Bush I administration and sex ed from the Middle Ages. Nice.

Illegal Wiretapping Is Illegal!

Excellent!
Think Progress has pdf's of the Decision and Injunction here.

The Permanent Injunction of the TSP requested by Plaintiffs is granted inasmuch as each ofthe factors required to be met to sustain such an injunction have undisputedly been met.59The irreparable injury necessary to warrant injunctive relief is clear, as the First and Fourth Amendment rights of Plaintiffs are violated by the TSP. See Dombrowski v. Pfister, 380 U.S. 479 (1965). The irreparable injury conversely sustained by Defendants under this injunction may be rectified by compliance with our Constitution and/or statutory law, as amended if necessary. Plaintiffs have prevailed, and the public interest is clear, in this matter. It is the upholding of our Constitution.

As Justice Warren wrote in U.S. v. Robel, 389 U.S. 258 (1967):
Implicit in the term ‘national defense’ is the notion of defendingthose values and ideas which set this Nation apart. . . . It would indeed be ironic if, in the name of national defense, we wouldsanction the subversion of . . . those liberties . . . which makes thedefense of the Nation worthwhile. Id. at 264.
IT IS SO ORDERED.

Probably Did Go Something Like This

Right Wing Jerks In Review: George Allen

Damn. Just Damn.

Remember folks this guy wants to be President! Anyone remember George Allen (R-Va) claim to fame?

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution (03/04/05)

Allen, who once decorated his law office with a Confederate flag and noose and, as governor of Virginia, signed a "Confederate Heritage Month" proclamation while dubbing the NAACP an "extremist group," returned from a trip to the bridge with Lewis last year and introduced legislation that essentially apologized for lynchings.

Apologies or not, it doesn't seem like all that much has changed in native Californian cum Virginian Mr. Allen's private Dixie.
Allen Quip Provokes Outrage, Apology
Name Insults Webb Volunteer

(click for full article)

RICHMOND, Aug. 14 -- Virginia Sen. George Allen (R) apologized Monday for what his opponent's campaign said were demeaning and insensitive comments the senator made to a 20-year-old volunteer of Indian descent.

At a campaign rally in southwest Virginia on Friday, Allen repeatedly called a volunteer for Democrat James Webb "macaca." During the speech in Breaks, near the Kentucky border, Allen began by saying that he was "going to run this campaign on positive, constructive ideas" and then pointed at S.R. Sidarth in the crowd.

"This fellow here, over here with the yellow shirt, macaca, or whatever his name is. He's with my opponent. He's following us around everywhere. And it's just great," Allen said, as his supporters began to laugh. After saying that Webb was raising money in California with a "bunch of Hollywood movie moguls," Allen said, "Let's give a welcome to macaca, here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia." Allen then began talking about the "war on terror."

Depending on how it is spelled, the word macaca could mean either a monkey that inhabits the Eastern Hemisphere or a town in South Africa. In some European cultures, macaca is also considered a racial slur against African immigrants, according to several Web sites that track ethnic slurs.
Massah Allen should do his homework more carefully as Mr.
S.R. Sidarth is a native of Virginia.

So what is an actual macaca/macaques, hop on over to Animal Diversity for some examples.

To see how the word is used by the hooded members of the American population, Jeffrey Feldman's Frame Shop did a bit of research on the matter.

Caution the racially epithets used in some of the posts found by Feldman are offensive and the outpourings of delusional minds.

Want to help end the reign of Geroge Allen, and apparently the U.S. Civil War as well, support his challenger Jim Webb for Senate!

In 2000, the presence of a third party candidate, Ralph Nader, no doubt played a
role in the defeat of Vice President Gore and Joe Lieberman. Now Joe Lieberman
is risking our party's claim on his Senate seat by running as a third party
candidate himself. Recent news reports detail the GOP's interest in supporting
just such an effort. It's time to draw a line.

I committed myself to supporting the Democratic nominee for the US Senate in
Connecticut and I ask you to do likewise. Because too much is at stake with our
troubles abroad and at home, we cannot play games this Election Day. That's
why I call on all loyal Democrats to join me in urging Senator Lieberman

nominated Democrat.

Lebanon gripped by anti-American sentiment
By Leila Fadel

BEIRUT, Lebanon - In trendy central Beirut, a large banner looms over the now nearly empty streets of downtown: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stares intently, with piercing fangs and blood dripping from her lips.

"The massacre of children in Qana is a gift from Rice," the banner says. It's referring to a southern Lebanese town that's now synonymous with the word massacre after the deaths of at least 28 civilians, many children, in an Israeli airstrike on July 30, and another attack in 1996, when Israeli artillery killed more than 100 civilians.

Last year, Lebanon was the beacon of the Bush administration's vision of a new Middle East. There were free elections without Syrian influence, women's rights, a free press and free speech.

Today, much of this nation feels deserted by America as Israeli warplanes dropping American-made weapons destroy apartment blocks, bridges and roads. After four weeks of bombardment, the feeling is increasingly shared by Shiite and Sunni Muslims, Christians and Druze.

Israeli and American officials thought Israel's counterattack against Hezbollah would turn more Lebanese against the militant Shiite group, but members of the new independent government worry that the war will turn Lebanon into a bastion for extremism. With every civilian death, anger rises, among both the displaced poor living in parks and the well-off still eating pasta salads in cafes.

"You cannot see the Middle East only through the eyes of Israel," said Misbah Ahdab, a Sunni Muslim member of parliament who was in the political movement that forced Syria to leave Lebanon last year. "Either this is settled immediately and we hurry and work to rebuild, or it will be a mini-Iraq and all the extremists will come to Lebanon to fight Israel."

Ahdab is disappointed in what he considers to be a pro-Israel policy, which he says has forsaken a Lebanese government that once saw the United States as a friend and protector.

The Recent Event.

A tip...hmmmm. that sounds an awful lot like good old fashion police work, and imagine it didn't require blowing the shit out of an unrealted country, odd that. Nor did it require unrestricted illegal wiretapping or waterboarding some guy to get the information. Who'd a thunk it. This will apparently require an assault on bottled water and nail polish. Oi.
Tip Followed '05 Attacks on London Transit
By Craig Whitlock and Dafna Linzer
Washington Post Foreign Service
Friday, August 11, 2006; Page A01

It all began with a tip: In the aftermath of the July 7, 2005, suicide bombings on London's transit system, British authorities received a call from a worried member of the Muslim community, reporting general suspicions about an acquaintance.

From that vague but vital piece of information, according to a senior European intelligence official, British authorities opened the investigation into what they said turned out to be a well-coordinated and long-planned plot to bomb multiple transatlantic flights heading toward the United States -- an assault designed to rival the scope and lethality of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackings.

Jeez Joe, This Is Just Sad, Just Sad.

I wish I honestly understood what the hell this man is thinking and most of all how the disparate pieces came to be, by his reasoning, a rational thought. What I do know is that this kind of rhetorical knee biting garbage has run its course. Anyone who honestly believes that Joementum, or is ilk, are all that stands between us and doomsday really need to get a freakin' grip.

No one has said to just pack up our shit and leave Iraq. Not Jack Murtha, not Ned Lamont, and certainly not me. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut seized on the reports of a terror plot yesterday to attack Ned Lamont, his Democratic opponent for re-election, saying that Mr. Lamont’s goal of withdrawing American troops from Iraq by a fixed date would constitute a “victory” for extremists.

"If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England," Mr. Lieberman said at a campaign event in Waterbury, Conn. "It will strengthen them, and they will strike again."

'Dear Katherine' Letter Failed to Dissuade Harris
By Zachary A. Goldfarb
Tuesday, August 1, 2006;
Page A04

Nearly three months ago, the Florida Republican Party told Senate candidate Katherine Harris she wouldn't win the election and the party wouldn't support her.

"Katherine, though it causes us much anguish, we have determined that your campaign faces irreparable damage," said a May 7 letter to Harris obtained by the Associated Press. "We feel that we have no other choice but to revoke our support."....

In a statement yesterday, Harris called the letter "old news" and said that Jordan had never expressed concerns about her campaign.

In her own statement yesterday, Jordan said "our concerns about the race and the nominee's ability to knock off Bill Nelson still exist."

Oh Katherine my dear, PLEASE! Please don't quit. This stuff is comedy gold!

Just What Else Can Happen To Katherine Harris?

Welcome back my friends
To the embarrassment that never ends
So glad you could attend....

Did Harris Break Rule, Hide Subpoena from House Leaders?
By Justin Rood
August 2, 2006, 11:52 AM

It's unfortunate that after receiving a federal grand jury subpoena, Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL) declined to mention it to her Senate campaign staff.

But it appears she also declined to share it with the Speaker of the House -- and that's a violation of House rules.

As we've seen most recently in the case of Rep. Bob Ney's (R-OH) heavily-subpoenaed office (wham, bam, thank you and ma'am), any representative or staffer receiving a subpoena concerning any work-related issue must disclose it, and an announcement is subsequently published in the Congressional Record. It's called "House Rule VIII," and it's cited in just about every disclosure.
Honestly this is just getting pathetic and sad.

OH! Who am I kidding? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Anti-evolution forces lose power in state primary
By Carey GillamWed

Aug 2, 2:36 AM ET
Conservative Republicans who pushed for criticism of evolution in Kansas classrooms lost control of the state school board as moderates scored a narrow victory in a primary election on Tuesday.

The shake-up came after the Kansas State Board of Education voted 6-4 in November to approve new science standards that local and national science groups charged were a product of religious zealotry because they challenged Darwin's theory.

Teachers and scientists joined with moderate and liberal political action groups to campaign for the ouster of the conservatives and return to teaching what they consider conventional science.

The Kansas standards, meant to be guidelines for teachers across the state, were seen as a victory for the "intelligent design" movement, which holds that the world is so complex that a higher authority -- God -- must have created it.

With more than 90 percent of the votes counted early on Wednesday, moderates had gained two seats and secured a third on the 10-member board, pushing conservatives -- two held their seats -- into the minority.

"We're going to have a new majority on the school board," said Boo Tyson, executive director of the MAINstream Coalition, which helped fund the campaign against the conservatives. "The people of Kansas have said they want their school board focused on something else than this hot-button issue."

Right Wing Jerks In Review: Richard Pombo

WOW! You do not see absolute stupidity very often.

A staffer/adviser to Rep. Richard Pombo (CA-11) has done absolutely nothing to enhance the image of one of the
Thirteen Most Tainted Members of Congress as selected by CREW. Remember, the letter bellow is in response to an editorial against Pombo's stance supporting ANWR drilling.

Anyone who has investigated the ANWR debate will know that even the OIL COMPANIES realize that drilling in the ANWR is pointless and would not even come close to closing the foreign/domestic oil gap. The damage done by this drilling will not create the jobs promised or effect gas prices.

No matter what your feelings on the issue does an editorial criticizing Pombo's, no holds barred- drill anywhere, policies justify this response?

“"Connecticut should have its statehood taken away from it. The foolishness of its pampered residents should be demonstrated to others by a government program to bulldoze the entire state, salt the land and construct a windfarm to supply NYC with electricity. And its residents should be relocated to Guantanamo Bay where they can take a number behind the 3 who hung themselves this weekend, since they seem so intent on suicide."

Rushama Bin Limbana?

The similarities are frightening

"Until civilians -- frankly, I'm not sure how many of them are actually just innocent little civilians running around versus active Hezbo types, particularly the men -- but until those civilians start paying a price for propping up these kinds of regimes, it's not going to end, folks. What do you mean, civilians start paying a price? I just ask you to consult history for the answer to that.”

"We declared jihad against the US government, because the US government is unjust, criminal and tyrannical. It has committed acts that are extremely unjust, hideous and criminal . . . As for what you asked regarding the American people, they are not exonerated from responsibility, because they chose this government and voted for it despite their knowledge of its crimes in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and in other places."

Powerline Uses Chopped Audio Clip to Smear Rep. John Dingell As Hezbollah Apologist

Yesterday, the popular right-wing blog Powerline smeared Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) as an apologist for Hezbollah using an edited clip from local Detroit television. The post, entitled “Dingell: What’s Wrong With Hezbollah,” features this misleading transcript, complete with edited audio:

Asked, “You’re not against Hezbollah?” Dingell answers, “No…”

Here’s what Dingell actually said:

Q: You’re not against Hezbollah?

DINGELL: No, I happen to be — I happen to be against violence, I think the United States has to bring resolution to this matter. Now, I condemn Hezbollah as does everybody else, for the violence.
Typical really. If you do not have the truth on your side, folks like Hindraker will simply cherry pick. Sad. I would join the general call for Hindraker to issue a retraction or correction but I know that succubi will be trying on ice skates before Powerline would do that.
