Human/Animal Hybrids: A Defense

From The State Of The Union, January 31, 2006:

BUSH: A hopeful society has institutions of science and medicine that do not cut ethical corners and that recognize the matchless value of every life.

Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms; creating or implanting embryos for experiments; creating human-animal hybrids; and buying, selling or patenting human embryos.

Human life is a gift from our creator, and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale.

I could not help but be offended by the President's statement that Animal-Human hybrids were a bad thing. Think of all the benefits and life long relationships that have been formed. Moments we can treasure forever because of them!

Sure, early o
n there were problems. A few miscommunication. Isn't that normal... inevitable?

Many of these misunderstandings have come from "Pure" Human bigotry and attempts to make them like us, rather then let them grow with us.

I contend that in our ever developing relationship they have benefited our lives more than harmed.

Some of our newest friends have acclimated well to our society and even thrived!

Some have attended our finest institutions and have become Doctors!

Religious and scientific leaders!

Government Officials!

So, no more of this Animal-Human bigotry. We should all join together and embrace what makes us the same:

And cherish what makes us different!
